Deepinder Goyal Steps Down as Group CEO of Eternal Ltd, Albinder Dhindsa Takes Over

Deepinder Goyal, founder of Eternal Ltd., has stepped down as the Group Chief Executive Officer with immediate effect, marking a significant leadership transition at the company he built over the last 18 years. Goyal will now assume the role of Vice Chairman, subject to shareholders’ approval, while Albinder Dhindsa, the current CEO of Blinkit and a long-time associate of Goyal, has been appointed as the new Group CEO of Eternal Ltd.

Reason Behind the Leadership Transition

In a detailed letter addressed to shareholders, Goyal explained that the decision was driven by his growing inclination towards exploring new, high-risk ideas that fall outside Eternal’s current strategic scope. He noted that such experimentation is better pursued independently rather than within a publicly listed company that requires focused execution and disciplined growth.

“Of late, I have found myself drawn to a set of new ideas that involve significantly higher-risk exploration and experimentation. These are the kinds of ideas that are better pursued outside a public company like Eternal,” Goyal wrote. He added that if these ideas aligned with Eternal’s business priorities, he would have pursued them internally.

Goyal also acknowledged the demanding nature of leading a public company in India, stating that regulatory and legal expectations require singular focus. The transition, he said, allows Eternal to remain sharply focused on its core businesses while giving him the freedom to explore ventures that do not fit the company’s risk profile.

Albinder Dhindsa to Lead Day-to-Day Operations

With the leadership change, the operational control of Eternal Ltd. will now rest with Albinder Dhindsa. As Group CEO, Dhindsa will oversee day-to-day execution, operating priorities, and key business decisions across the group.

“The centre of gravity for operating decisions moves to Albi,” Goyal stated, expressing confidence in his successor’s leadership capabilities. Dhindsa, who currently leads Blinkit, has been closely associated with Goyal for years and is regarded as a trusted partner with deep operational experience.

What Remains Unchanged

Despite stepping down from the CEO role, Goyal emphasised that his association with Eternal remains strong. He will continue to play a critical role in shaping the company’s long-term strategy, organisational culture, leadership development, and governance practices.

“I have spent eighteen years, almost half my life, building this company. I will continue doing that,” Goyal said, underlining his continued commitment. He also noted that the close working relationship between himself, Dhindsa, and other senior leaders, including Akshant, will remain intact, ensuring continuity and stability.

What Changes Going Forward

While Goyal transitions to a more strategic and advisory role as Vice Chairman, Dhindsa will take full charge of execution and operational leadership. The autonomy of business CEOs within the group will continue as before, maintaining the decentralised structure that has been a hallmark of Eternal’s operations.

Market and Industry Implications

The leadership reshuffle is being closely watched by industry observers and investors, as Eternal Ltd. enters a new phase under Dhindsa’s leadership. Goyal’s move signals a clear separation between the company’s core growth strategy and his personal pursuit of innovation beyond the constraints of a public company framework.

The transition underscores Eternal’s intent to maintain operational focus and governance discipline while ensuring founder continuity at the board level.
