Winter Relents in Odisha, But Southern and Western Districts Still Feel the Chill

Odisha has experienced a slight relief from the intense cold wave, with no city recording temperatures below 10°C in the last 24 hours. However, winter conditions continue to prevail in parts of western and southern Odisha, particularly in Kandhamal, Koraput, Rayagada, and Nabarangpur. The Regional Meteorological Department has predicted that temperatures may dip again after two days, especially during night hours.

Kandhamal Still Shivers Under Fog and Biting Cold

Kandhamal remains the coldest district in the state, continuing to experience dense fog, cloudy skies, and extremely low visibility. On Monday, sunlight failed to appear even after 8 AM, and normal life was disrupted due to poor visibility and cold conditions. Since early November, Kandhamal has regularly recorded temperatures below 15°C, with some days dipping under 10°C. Despite the harsh weather, the scenic winter ambiance continues to attract tourists.

Twin Cities Experience Mild Winter

In contrast, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack witnessed comparatively mild weather, with minimal impact from the cold wave. The cold conditions are more prominent in interior districts such as Koraput, Kandhamal, Rayagada, and Nabarangpur, where both fog and cold winds persist.

The IMD has issued a yellow warning for fog in these affected districts, advising caution in travel and transport due to reduced visibility.

Cyclone Ditwah Temporarily Raised Temperatures

Although Cyclone Ditwah didn’t directly affect Odisha, its influence altered temperature patterns, temporarily raising nighttime temperatures. Meteorologists expect that once the cyclone’s effect fades, temperatures may drop sharply, possibly reaching 3–4°C in some interior regions later this week.

Light Rainfall Forecast for Southern Odisha

Meanwhile, light rainfall is expected today in Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Rayagada, while the rest of the state is likely to remain dry.
