San Francisco, August 8, 2025 — OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has officially launched ChatGPT-5, the company’s most advanced artificial intelligence model yet, describing it as “very smart, intuitive, and fast.”
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Altman revealed that GPT-5 is an integrated model, eliminating the need for switching between different AI versions. “It decides when it needs to think harder or not,” he explained. Notably, GPT-5 is being made available to all ChatGPT users, including those on the free tier, with advanced reasoning capabilities.
What’s New in GPT-5
-
Enhanced Intelligence: GPT-5 is designed for superior reasoning, creative writing, and coding proficiency, making it adept at handling complex queries.
-
Faster & More Natural Conversations: According to Nick Turley, head of the ChatGPT team, the new model responds faster, provides more accurate answers, and hallucinates less compared to earlier versions.
-
Integrated Thinking: The model can determine how much time to spend thinking about a question, adapting its responses for efficiency and accuracy.
-
Better Creative Output: Altman highlighted GPT-5’s writing skills, sharing examples like eulogies for older models and a web app to learn French—complete with games such as a “snake” variant using French vocabulary.
Rollout Plan
-
Available Now: Free, Plus, Pro, and Team users.
-
Coming Next Week: Enterprise and Education customers.
Altman called GPT-5’s release to free-tier users a “big deal”, claiming it offers “PhD-level intelligence” to everyone. The update also boosts usage limits for free users, while Pro subscribers get access to GPT-5 Pro, described by Altman as “really smart!”
Most Reliable Model Yet
OpenAI says GPT-5 is its most factual and reliable model to date. With its ability to generate hundreds of lines of code in minutes and explain complex concepts interactively, it represents a significant leap in AI capabilities.
