A fresh low-pressure area has formed over the Bay of Bengal near Odisha on Wednesday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The weather system is likely to trigger heavy to very heavy rainfall across several parts of Odisha, particularly in northern and adjoining districts.
The IMD has issued an orange alert for three districts and a yellow alert for 25 districts as the weather system influences the state.
Heavy Rainfall Likely in Several Odisha Districts
Bhadrak, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall under the influence of the low-pressure system.
Heavy rainfall is also expected in Balasore, Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Cuttack, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Puri and Khordha.
The weather system could result in widespread rainfall activity across Odisha, with northern districts expected to experience particularly intense conditions.
Rough Sea Conditions Along Odisha Coast
The IMD has also warned of rough to very rough sea conditions along the Odisha coast and adjoining waters.
Winds are expected to reach speeds of 40 to 50 kmph, with gusts potentially touching 60 kmph at times.
Fishermen Advised Not to Venture Into Sea
In view of the expected deterioration in sea conditions, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the coastal and adjoining sea areas.
Authorities have also urged people living in vulnerable and rainfall-affected areas to remain alert and follow official advisories as the Bay of Bengal low-pressure system continues to influence Odisha’s weather.
