The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially started the fee refund process for candidates affected by the cancellation of the initial NEET UG 2026 examination following allegations of a paper leak and other irregularities.
The refund portal became operational on May 21, 2026, enabling students who appeared for the original examination conducted on May 3 to claim reimbursement of their examination fees. Meanwhile, the agency is preparing to hold a fresh pen-and-paper re-examination on June 21, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 5:15 pm, with more than 22 lakh candidates expected to participate nationwide.
NTA Activates Online Refund Portal
To ensure smooth reimbursement for affected candidates, the National Testing Agency launched a dedicated online portal on the official NEET website.
Students can submit their bank account details and IFSC code through the portal to receive the refund directly into their accounts. The move aims to ensure that candidates are not financially burdened due to the cancellation and rescheduling of the examination.
The last date for submitting bank account details for fee reimbursement is May 27, 2026.
The testing agency has also clarified that candidates appearing for the upcoming re-examination will not have to pay any additional examination fees.
City Preference Update Facility Provided
Alongside the refund process, the NTA also opened a correction facility allowing candidates to modify their current address and preferred examination city. The decision was taken to accommodate students who may have relocated or changed residence after the original examination schedule.
The city preference modification window remained available on the official website until 11:50 pm on May 21, 2026.
Officials stated that examination centres allotted for the June re-test may differ from the previously assigned venues depending on updated city preferences and the availability of examination centres in those locations.
Important Instructions for Candidates
According to the FAQs released by the National Testing Agency, certain details submitted during the original application process cannot be changed.
Notably, candidates will not be allowed to alter the medium of examination selected during the initial registration process.
Students have been advised to regularly monitor the official NEET website for updates related to admit cards, revised examination centres, re-test schedules, city allotment details and the ongoing refund process.
The cancellation of the original NEET UG 2026 examination had triggered widespread concern among students and parents across the country, making the upcoming re-examination one of the most closely watched entrance tests this year.
