India Successfully Test-Fires Agni-1 Short Range Ballistic Missile From Odisha’s Chandipur

India on Friday successfully conducted the test launch of the Agni-1 short-range ballistic missile from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur, marking another significant milestone in the country’s strategic defence preparedness.

According to a statement issued by the Defence Ministry, the missile launch successfully validated all operational and technical parameters. The test was carried out under the supervision of the Strategic Forces Command, which manages the nation’s strategic missile arsenal.

Successful Trial Validates Operational Capability

Officials stated that the successful launch confirmed the missile’s reliability, accuracy and operational readiness. The Agni-1 is part of India’s indigenous Agni missile series developed to strengthen the country’s strategic deterrence capabilities.

The missile was launched from the Integrated Test Range facility in Chandipur, one of India’s key missile testing centres located along the Odisha coast.

The Defence Ministry noted that all mission objectives were achieved during the test, further reinforcing the effectiveness of India’s indigenous missile systems developed under advanced defence programmes.

Earlier MIRV-Capable Agni Missile Test Conducted in Odisha

The latest test comes shortly after India successfully carried out the flight trial of an advanced Agni missile equipped with the Multiple Independently Targeted Re-Entry Vehicle (MIRV) system from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island on May 8 this year.

The advanced missile was tested with multiple payloads aimed at different targets distributed across a large geographical area in the Indian Ocean Region. The trial showcased India’s growing capability to engage multiple strategic targets using a single missile platform.

Telemetry and tracking operations during the mission were conducted through several ground-based and ship-based stations, which monitored the missile’s trajectory from launch until the successful impact of all payloads.

Officials confirmed that flight data collected during the mission established that all planned objectives had been successfully met.

DRDO and Indian Army Involved in Missile Development

The advanced missile systems have been developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) with support from various industries across the country.

Senior scientists from DRDO and personnel of the Indian Army witnessed the recent missile trials, highlighting the coordination between scientific institutions and defence forces in strengthening India’s strategic defence capabilities.

The successful testing of both the Agni-1 and the advanced MIRV-capable Agni missile further underlines India’s continued progress in indigenous missile technology and strategic defence systems.
