Low-Pressure System May Intensify, Rain Expected from October 26

Bhubaneswar: Odisha may experience increased rainfall from October 26 as a low-pressure system is likely to develop over the Bay of Bengal on October 23 and could intensify into a depression by October 25. The evolving weather system has also raised the possibility of cyclone formation, although its future development, movement and potential landfall location remain uncertain.

According to reports, several districts of Odisha may receive light to moderate rainfall over the coming days, including coastal areas and northern districts such as Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar. The weather department has also issued rainfall warnings for multiple districts between October 26 and 28.

Rain Alert for Odisha from October 26

The developing weather system is expected to influence weather conditions across parts of Odisha, with rainfall likely to begin in several districts from October 26.

Coastal districts, along with Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar, may experience light to moderate rain as the system develops and moves across the Bay of Bengal region.

According to the reported forecast, a Yellow Warning has been issued for 13 districts on October 26. Rain alerts are also in place for eight districts on October 27 and 12 districts on October 28.

Residents are advised to follow official weather bulletins for district-specific forecasts and updates as the system evolves.

Low-Pressure System May Intensify Over the Bay of Bengal

The weather system is expected to form over the Bay of Bengal on October 23. It may subsequently strengthen into a depression by October 25, depending on atmospheric and oceanic conditions.

If the system continues to intensify, cyclone formation remains a possibility. However, a low-pressure system does not necessarily develop into a cyclone, and its eventual strength depends on how it evolves over the following days.

The system’s direction of movement, intensity and proximity to the Odisha coast will be important factors in determining the impact on the State’s weather.

Cyclone Formation and Landfall Location Remain Uncertain

The possibility of cyclone formation has attracted attention, with reports indicating that several international weather models have projected the potential development of a stronger system over the Bay of Bengal.

Some projections reportedly suggest that the system could make landfall somewhere between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. However, the forecast track and potential landfall location remain uncertain at this stage.

Different weather models can produce varying projections during the early stages of a developing system. The situation may become clearer as fresh observations and updated forecasts become available.

Therefore, the possibility of a cyclone should not be treated as confirmation that a cyclone will form or make landfall in Odisha.

Weather Expert Discusses Possible Cyclone Development

Weather expert Surendra Nath Pashupalak has reportedly assessed that a cyclone could form on October 27 or 28.

According to his assessment, if the system moves towards Odisha, a possible landfall could occur along the coast between Jagatsinghpur and Ganjam districts.

This remains a potential scenario rather than a confirmed forecast. The actual track and intensity will depend on the system’s development and subsequent movement over the Bay of Bengal.

What Odisha Residents Should Know

With rainfall warnings in place for several districts, residents should monitor updates from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and local authorities.

People in coastal and other potentially affected areas should pay attention to official advisories, particularly if warnings are revised as the system develops. Fishermen and those planning sea-related activities should follow any official marine warnings issued by the authorities.

Further clarity on the possibility of cyclone formation, its movement and the expected rainfall distribution will depend on subsequent weather updates.
