Bhubaneswar: Odisha may face the possibility of another cyclone in October as a cyclonic circulation over the North Andaman Sea moves west-north-westwards, raising the prospect of a developing weather system over the Bay of Bengal.
A low-pressure area is likely to form over the south-east Bay of Bengal and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal on October 23. The system may subsequently move north-westwards and intensify, according to the weather projections cited in the report.
Several international weather models have indicated the possibility of cyclone formation over the Bay of Bengal. Some projections suggest that the system could move along the coasts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. However, its future development and potential impact on the eastern coastline remain uncertain.
Possible Cyclone May Approach Coast Around October 27
According to the European weather model, the potential cyclone could approach the coast around October 27, with a possible landfall on October 28.
However, these dates remain tentative projections rather than a confirmed forecast. The system’s exact track, landfall location, timing and intensity have not yet been established.
Its future movement will depend on how the weather conditions evolve over the coming days. Meteorologists will need to assess further developments before determining whether the system could pose a threat to Odisha or neighbouring coastal areas.
IMD Yet to Issue Specific Cyclone Update
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has not issued a specific update confirming the possibility of a cyclone, according to the information provided in the report.
Meteorological experts have indicated that favourable atmospheric and oceanic conditions could support the system’s development. However, the extent of intensification and the direction in which it may move remain unclear.
The absence of a confirmed forecast means that the possibility of cyclone formation should be treated with caution until more consistent information becomes available from official weather agencies.
Meteorologist Says It Is Too Early for a Definite Assessment
Meteorologist Sarat Chandra Sahu said several weather models suggest that the system over the Bay of Bengal could intensify, but its future movement and strength remain uncertain.
“Many weather models indicate that the system over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify. However, its direction of movement and the extent of intensification remain unclear, as the models have not provided a clear picture. At present, it is too early to make a definite assessment,” Sahu said.
He further indicated that the system could strengthen from a deep depression into a cyclonic storm if favourable weather conditions persist. However, its eventual intensity cannot be determined at this stage.
Odisha Coast Under Observation as Weather System Develops
The potential development of a cyclone in October has drawn attention to the Odisha coast, which is vulnerable to severe weather systems originating over the Bay of Bengal.
For now, the key factors to watch are the formation of the expected low-pressure area, its subsequent movement and whether it develops into a depression or cyclonic storm.
Residents should follow official IMD bulletins and advisories for reliable updates rather than relying solely on preliminary model projections. Further clarity on the system’s potential impact is expected as meteorological agencies gather more information over the coming days.
