Odisha is bracing for another spell of intense rainfall after a fresh low-pressure area formed over the coastal region adjoining the Bay of Bengal on Saturday, raising the possibility of widespread rain, thunderstorms and lightning across the state.
The weather system is expected to remain active over the next few days and may particularly influence northern Odisha. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Bhubaneswar, has issued an orange warning for six districts, cautioning residents about the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Six Odisha Districts Under Orange Warning
Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur have been placed under an orange alert due to the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rain.
Apart from these six districts, a yellow warning has been issued for 24 other districts, indicating the possibility of adverse weather conditions in several parts of the state.
The developing weather system is also expected to increase thunderstorm and lightning activity. Residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain alert, particularly during periods of intense rainfall and thunderstorms.
Rainfall Activity Likely To Increase From Sunday
According to the weather forecast, rainfall activity across Odisha could become more widespread and intense from Sunday. Several areas are likely to experience rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over the next four days.
Northern Odisha is expected to remain particularly affected by the system, with some locations likely to receive heavy spells of rain.
The fresh spell comes as the state continues to experience active monsoon conditions, with weather systems over the Bay of Bengal periodically increasing rainfall across different districts.
Weather System To Move West-Northwest
The low-pressure system is forecast to move west-northwestwards during the next 48 hours. Its movement towards the north Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal region is expected to influence weather conditions across Odisha.
The progression of the system could result in changing rainfall patterns, with several districts witnessing intermittent to intense showers.
Authorities On Alert
With heavy rainfall forecast in multiple districts, authorities have been advised to closely monitor the situation, particularly in areas vulnerable to waterlogging, flooding and disruption of normal movement.
People have also been urged to exercise caution during thunderstorms and lightning and to stay updated with official weather advisories as the system develops.
The coming few days are therefore expected to remain rainy and unsettled across Odisha, with northern districts likely to see some of the most intense weather activity.
