Bhubaneswar: Amid heavy rainfall across several parts of Odisha, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has directed railway officials to intensify monitoring of vulnerable railway sections and take preventive measures to ensure safe and uninterrupted train operations.
The minister reviewed the rainfall situation and its potential impact on railway infrastructure and train movement, directing officials to remain alert in areas vulnerable to waterlogging, track damage and other rain-related disruptions.
Special Focus On Rupsa-Baripada-Bangriposi, Rourkela Sections
According to reports, Vaishnaw asked the South Eastern Railway (SER) General Manager to closely monitor railway stretches that are prone to water accumulation and take timely steps to prevent disruption to train services.
Particular attention has been directed towards the Rupsa-Baripada-Bangriposi section and the Rourkela-Bondamunda stretch. Railway authorities have been instructed to deploy additional manpower and resources at vulnerable locations along these routes.
The move comes as several parts of Odisha continue to experience heavy rainfall, increasing the possibility of waterlogging and damage to railway infrastructure.
Railway Officials Asked To Monitor Track Conditions
Officials have been directed to maintain continuous surveillance of water levels, railway tracks and embankments, particularly in areas considered vulnerable during periods of intense rainfall.
Railway teams have also been asked to remain prepared for immediate intervention in case the weather situation deteriorates or railway infrastructure is affected.
Emergency resources are being kept ready so that any rain-related problem can be addressed quickly and train operations can be maintained as smoothly as possible.

Vaishnaw emphasised that passenger safety must remain the foremost priority during the ongoing spell of heavy rain.
The latest review assumes significance as Odisha continues to witness widespread rainfall, with several areas already experiencing waterlogging and disruption to normal life. Railway authorities are therefore keeping a close watch on vulnerable sections to prevent accidents and minimise delays.
