Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday launched several development initiatives in Bhubaneswar ahead of the festive season, with a focus on affordable housing, improved living conditions and public recreational facilities.
The initiatives include an affordable housing project at Gadakana and the inauguration of Mukteswar Residency. The Nilakantheswar Niwas Sulabh Awasika Prakalpa, an affordable housing project at Ghatikia, was also among the initiatives announced. In addition, the State Government plans to inaugurate 12 playgrounds across the capital and has laid the foundation stone for rental and transit housing projects.
These initiatives are aimed at strengthening housing facilities and improving access to essential amenities for residents of Bhubaneswar, particularly people from economically weaker sections.
Affordable Housing Projects Launched in Bhubaneswar
As part of the development initiatives, Chief Minister Majhi launched an affordable housing project at Gadakana and inaugurated Mukteswar Residency.
The Nilakantheswar Niwas Sulabh Awasika Prakalpa at Ghatikia was also included among the housing initiatives. These projects reflect the government’s focus on expanding housing options and helping people access better living conditions.
The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for the construction of rental and transit housing. Such accommodation is intended to address housing needs through rental facilities and temporary arrangements for people who require them.
Government Plans to Inaugurate 12 Playgrounds
Alongside housing development, the State Government is planning to inaugurate 12 playgrounds in Bhubaneswar.
The playgrounds are part of the broader development push aimed at improving public facilities and recreational spaces in the capital. Together with the housing initiatives, the projects are expected to contribute to better urban amenities and living conditions.
CM Majhi Highlights Vision of Housing for the Poor
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said the initiatives reflected Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ensuring better living conditions for people living in kutcha houses and slums.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi envisioned an Odisha where people would move out of kutcha houses and slums and live in better conditions in pucca houses. That vision is being fulfilled today,” Majhi said.
The Chief Minister added that improving the living conditions of slum residents and people below the poverty line had remained an important goal over the past 12 years.
He also credited the Prime Minister’s initiatives with helping more than 25 crore people move above the poverty line.
Food Security and Housing Remain Key Priorities
Majhi also highlighted the importance of food security, referring to the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY), which he said had helped advance the vision of an India where people did not go hungry.
He further stated that the Mukhya Mantri Annapurna Yojana had addressed food-related concerns for more than three crore people in Odisha.
“Along with food, another basic necessity for people is a roof over their heads. That need has been met for many people today,” the Chief Minister said.
His remarks highlighted the government’s focus on addressing two fundamental needs—food and shelter—alongside broader efforts to improve living standards.
Housing and Urban Development in Focus Ahead of Festive Season
The projects launched and announced in Bhubaneswar cover affordable housing, rental and transit accommodation, and public recreational facilities.
With these initiatives, the State Government is seeking to improve basic amenities and expand housing opportunities for residents of the capital. The development measures also place a focus on people from economically weaker sections who need access to better housing and living conditions.
