The Odisha Transport Department has intensified its crackdown on vehicles operating without valid insurance, with authorities warning that such vehicles could face seizure and cancellation of their registration certificates (RCs) in serious or repeated cases.
The enforcement drive is aimed at ensuring that vehicle owners comply with mandatory documentation requirements and improving road safety across the state.
e-Detection System to Track Vehicle Documents
As part of the intensified enforcement, the Transport Department will strengthen checks at toll gates through the e-Detection system.
Under the automated system, essential vehicle documents will be electronically verified, including:
- Valid motor insurance
- Fitness certificate
- Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate
- Other mandatory vehicle documents
The system is expected to help authorities identify vehicles operating without valid documents more efficiently and reduce the scope for violations to go undetected.
e-Challans for Vehicles Without Valid Documents
If a vehicle is found to be operating without the required documents, authorities will issue an e-challan against the owner.
Officials have also warned habitual offenders of stricter action. Repeated violations of vehicle and traffic regulations could result in legal proceedings and additional enforcement measures.
In cases involving serious or persistent violations, the department may initiate the process for cancellation of the vehicle’s registration and seize the vehicle.
Over 65 Lakh Vehicles Reportedly Without Valid Insurance
According to information available with the Transport Department, as many as 65,73,633 vehicles in Odisha have reportedly been identified as having no valid insurance.
The large number of uninsured vehicles has prompted authorities to strengthen monitoring and enforcement across the state.
Officials are urging vehicle owners to ensure that their insurance and other mandatory certificates remain valid to avoid penalties and enforcement action.
Focus on Road Safety and Compliance
The latest enforcement initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to improve compliance with vehicle regulations and strengthen road safety.
By electronically checking vehicle records at toll gates, the authorities expect to identify violations more quickly and ensure that vehicles on Odisha’s roads meet the required legal and safety standards.
Vehicle owners have been advised to keep their insurance, PUC and fitness certificates updated and ensure that all required documents are valid before travelling.
The intensified checks could result in greater scrutiny of vehicles across Odisha, particularly those repeatedly found violating mandatory documentation requirements.
