Sambalpur: The Sambalpur district administration has ordered the closure of all educational institutions across the district on Monday as continuous rainfall and adverse weather conditions continue to impact normal life in Odisha. The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and non-teaching staff amid the ongoing spell of heavy rain.
According to an order issued by the Collector and District Magistrate, all government and private schools, colleges, universities, and other educational institutions in Sambalpur district will remain closed for the day.
The closure applies to the Sambalpur Municipal Corporation (SMC) area, Dhankauda Block, and the entire district.
Educational Institutions Asked to Remain Closed
The administration stated that the decision was taken after considering the prevailing weather conditions and forecasts of continued heavy rainfall. All educational institutions have been directed to strictly comply with the closure order to ensure public safety.
Authorities have also appealed to residents to remain alert and avoid unnecessary travel, as persistent rainfall has disrupted normal movement in several parts of the district.
IMD Warns of Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall over Sambalpur and several other districts of Odisha. The weather agency has warned that continuous rain could lead to:
- Waterlogging in low-lying areas
- Localised flooding
- Poor visibility on roads
- Rising water levels in rivers and streams
- Traffic disruptions in vulnerable locations
Officials have advised people living in flood-prone areas to stay updated with weather advisories and follow instructions issued by the district administration.
Odisha on High Alert Amid Active Monsoon
With the southwest monsoon remaining active across the state, several district administrations have stepped up precautionary measures to minimise the impact of heavy rainfall.
Apart from Sambalpur, educational institutions have also been ordered to remain closed in Cuttack, Boudh, Sonepur, Nuapada, and Kandhamal due to adverse weather conditions.
The Odisha government continues to monitor the evolving situation closely, while district authorities remain on alert to respond to any rain-related emergencies.
