Odisha Launches Month-Long Electoral Roll Verification Drive; BLOs Begin Door-to-Door Survey

A Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has begun across Odisha, with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) launching a comprehensive door-to-door verification campaign to update voter records and ensure the accuracy of electoral rolls ahead of future elections.

The month-long exercise commenced on Saturday and will continue until June 28, covering urban and rural areas across the state.

BLOs Conduct Door-To-Door Verification

As part of the revision process, Booth Level Officers are visiting households to distribute enumeration forms, verify voter details, and assist residents in updating information related to their electoral records.

In districts such as Jagatsinghpur, BLOs have started reaching out to voters across various blocks, providing the required forms and helping residents complete the documentation process.

Officials said the exercise is aimed at improving the accuracy and completeness of voter lists by identifying errors, updating records, and ensuring that all eligible citizens are included in the electoral database.

Focus On New Enrolment And Corrections

The Special Intensive Revision will facilitate:

  • Enrolment of eligible new voters
  • Correction of existing voter details
  • Addition of missing entries
  • Deletion of ineligible or duplicate records
  • Verification of voter information

Election officials said the exercise is crucial for maintaining a clean and updated electoral roll.

A Booth Level Officer involved in the drive said, “We received the enumeration forms on Friday. From today we are visiting households to distribute the forms and help people fill them out. If anyone faces difficulty, we will assist them in completing the process.”

Residents have also begun cooperating with the exercise by collecting the forms and preparing the required information.

Electoral Roll Revision Schedule

The Election Commission has outlined the following timeline for the revision process:

  • Door-to-door verification: Till June 28
  • Publication of draft electoral roll: July 5
  • Claims and objections period: July 5 to August 4
  • Publication of final electoral roll: September 6

During the claims and objections period, voters will have the opportunity to seek corrections, raise objections, or request inclusion of their names if omitted from the draft list.

Election Commission Appeals For Public Cooperation

The Election Commission has urged citizens to cooperate with Booth Level Officers and submit the required documents and information within the stipulated timeline.

Officials believe the statewide verification drive will help create a more accurate, transparent, and error-free voter database, strengthening the electoral process and ensuring that all eligible voters are properly represented in future elections.
