Bharat Connect E-Challan Platform Crosses 10 Lakh Digital Traffic Fine Payments

NPCI Bharat BillPay Limited (NBBL), a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), on Wednesday announced that the e-challan category under Bharat Connect has crossed one million transactions with a cumulative value exceeding Rs 600 million.

The milestone highlights the growing adoption of digital payment platforms for civic utility services and reflects the country’s continued push towards a digital-first governance ecosystem.

E-Challan Services Active In Five States

According to the company, Bharat Connect’s e-challan payment facility is currently operational in:

  • Andhra Pradesh
  • Telangana
  • Gujarat
  • Himachal Pradesh
  • Delhi

The platform enables citizens to seamlessly check and pay traffic challans through a secure, interoperable and accessible digital payment system.

Officials said the initiative is helping simplify traffic fine payments while improving transparency and convenience for citizens.

Andhra Pradesh Records Highest Adoption

Among the participating states, Andhra Pradesh recorded the highest usage, with more than 7 lakh transactions processed since the launch of the service.

Telangana and Gujarat also witnessed strong adoption, while Delhi and Himachal Pradesh have recently joined the Bharat Connect e-challan network.

NBBL stated that additional states are expected to be integrated into the platform in the coming months.

NBBL Highlights Shift Towards Digital Public Services

Speaking on the development, Noopur Chaturvedi, Managing Director and CEO of NBBL, said the e-challan category on Bharat Connect is witnessing rapid growth in user adoption.

“This achievement reflects the trust people place in our platform and signals a clear shift in consumer behaviour towards digital-first public services,” she said.

She added that the company will continue working with ecosystem partners to improve accessibility and expand digital civic payment services across the country.

Boost To Digital Governance Ecosystem

According to NPCI Bharat BillPay Limited, the success of the e-challan category marks an important step towards strengthening digital governance by integrating state-level traffic enforcement systems into India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI).

Officials believe the growing adoption of the service across multiple states could help create a scalable and replicable framework for other transport departments and state governments.

The company said the initiative has the potential to accelerate digital payment adoption for civic services while improving efficiency in public service delivery.

Expansion Expected Across More States

NBBL indicated that Bharat Connect’s e-challan ecosystem is expected to expand further as more states and transport authorities are likely to join the network in the future.

Experts believe the increasing popularity of digital challan payments reflects broader consumer acceptance of integrated digital payment systems for government-related services.

The development also aligns with India’s larger efforts to strengthen cashless transactions, digital governance and citizen-centric public service platforms.
