Kalbaisakhi Rain Brings Relief From Heatwave In Odisha

Several parts of Odisha witnessed relief from prevailing heatwave conditions after Kalbaisakhi thunderstorms triggered rainfall, strong winds and lightning activity across multiple districts.

Cloudy weather conditions prevailed in Bhubaneswar on Thursday morning, bringing a noticeable drop in temperature following days of intense heat and humid conditions.

Thunderstorms Lash Bhubaneswar And Cuttack

Kalbaisakhi-triggered thunderstorms and rainfall affected the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack on Wednesday evening.

The weather changed suddenly as dark clouds covered the sky during evening hours, followed by gusty winds and heavy rain in several localities.

Many areas also experienced thunder and lightning activity, leading to brief disruptions in traffic and normal public movement.

The Kalbaisakhi storm reportedly caused damage in several places due to strong winds and intense rainfall.

Residents Get Temporary Relief From Heat

The sudden spell of rain brought temporary relief to residents who had been struggling with soaring daytime temperatures and uncomfortable humidity over the last few days.

Western and interior parts of Odisha had recently been witnessing severe heatwave conditions, with temperatures remaining significantly above normal in many districts.

IMD Issues Orange And Yellow Warnings

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said similar weather activity is likely to continue across several districts of Odisha on Thursday as well.

In view of the possibility of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds, the weather department has issued:

  • Orange Warning for eight districts
  • Yellow Warning for 16 districts

Officials advised residents to remain alert during thunderstorm activity and avoid taking shelter under trees or near electric poles during lightning.

Thunderstorm Activity Likely To Continue

According to weather officials, pre-monsoon Kalbaisakhi activity is gradually strengthening across the state and may continue to trigger isolated rainfall and thunderstorms over the coming days.

Experts said the rainfall could provide intermittent relief from the heatwave in several districts, although humid weather conditions are likely to persist in coastal regions.

Authorities have urged people to follow weather advisories and take precautions during lightning and strong wind activity.
