Sunrisers Hyderabad secured a crucial five-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings in their IPL 2026 clash, becoming the third team after Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bengaluru to qualify for the playoffs.
Chasing a target of 181, Sunrisers Hyderabad reached 181/5 in 19 overs, thanks to a match-winning knock from Ishan Kishan, who remained the standout performer with a brilliant 70 off 47 balls.
Ishan Kishan Anchors Successful Run Chase
Kishan played a composed yet aggressive innings, smashing seven fours and three sixes at a strike rate of nearly 149. His partnership with Heinrich Klaasen proved decisive in the chase.
Klaasen contributed a quickfire 47 off 26 deliveries before being dismissed in the 15th over. Together, the duo kept SRH firmly in control after the team lost early wickets.
SRH opener Abhishek Sharma scored 26 off 21 balls before being dismissed by Akeal Hosein in the eighth over.
Earlier, SRH suffered an early setback when Travis Head departed for six runs after being dismissed by Mukesh Choudhary in the third over.
Despite the early wicket, Kishan ensured Hyderabad maintained momentum throughout the chase.
CSK Post Competitive 180/7
Batting first after winning the toss, Chennai Super Kings posted 180/7 in their 20 overs.
Sanju Samson provided an attacking start for CSK with 27 runs off just 13 balls before falling to SRH captain Pat Cummins in the third over.
Cummins continued his impressive spell by dismissing Ruturaj Gaikwad for 15 and also accounted for Kartik Sharma, finishing with three crucial wickets.
Sakib Hussain struck twice for Hyderabad, removing Urvil Patel and later dismissing Shivam Dube, who scored 26 off 23 balls.
Dewald Brevis played an important innings for CSK with 44 runs off 27 deliveries before being dismissed by Ehsan Malinga in the 18th over.
In the final over, Praful Hinge dismissed Prashant Veer as Hyderabad restricted Chennai to 180.
SRH Enter Playoffs; CSK Face Pressure
The victory officially confirmed Sunrisers Hyderabad’s place in the IPL 2026 playoffs, highlighting the team’s consistency and balanced performances this season.
