IMD Issues Seven-Day Weather Alert For Odisha; Thunderstorms, Gusty Winds And Humid Conditions Likely

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a detailed seven-day weather advisory for Odisha, warning of light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and hot, humid conditions across several districts of the state over the coming week.

Residents have been advised to remain cautious during thunderstorm activity and follow official safety guidelines, particularly in districts placed under yellow and orange warnings.

According to the IMD forecast, multiple districts are likely to experience intermittent rain and thunderstorm activity between May 18 and May 25, 2026.

The weather system is expected to impact both coastal and interior regions, with varying intensity of winds and lightning activity during the period.

Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are likely at isolated places in districts including:

Yellow Warning Issued

The IMD has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching 40–50 kmph in several districts including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Ganjam and Koraput.

Hot and humid weather conditions are also expected in parts of coastal and central Odisha.

Thunderstorms and light to moderate rainfall are likely across most districts of Odisha.

A yellow warning remains in place for gusty winds of 40–50 kmph and humid weather conditions in isolated areas.

Day 3 Forecast: May 20–21

The IMD has issued an orange warning for stronger thunderstorm activity in northern coastal and adjoining districts.

Orange Warning Districts

Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching 50–60 kmph are likely over:

Other districts may witness thunderstorms with winds of 40–50 kmph under yellow warning conditions.

The weather agency has advised residents to:
