West Bengal Govt Raises Upper Age Limit For State Recruitment Jobs

The Government of West Bengal has officially increased the upper age limit for recruitment to various state government posts, offering major relief to job aspirants across the state.

The revised age criteria were announced through a notification issued by the Finance Department’s Audit Branch from Nabanna in Howrah. The new rules came into effect from May 11, 2026.

Revised Upper Age Limits Announced

According to the notification, the upper age limits for different categories of government posts have been revised as follows:

  • Group ‘A’ posts: Upper age limit increased to 41 years
  • Group ‘B’ posts: Upper age limit increased to 44 years
  • Group ‘C’ and ‘D’ posts: Upper age limit increased to 45 years

The government clarified that if the existing upper age limit for any Group ‘A’ service or post is already above 41 years, the higher limit will continue unchanged.

Recruitment In Statutory Bodies Also Covered

The revised age limit will also apply to recruitment under the West Bengal Regulation of Recruitment in State Statutory Bodies, Government Companies and Local Authorities Act, 1999.

However, the provision excludes recruitment conducted through the West Bengal Public Service Commission.

Under these recruitments, the maximum age limit for applicants has been fixed at 45 years.

Relief For Government Job Aspirants

The decision is expected to benefit thousands of candidates who were previously unable to apply for government jobs due to age restrictions.

The move is being viewed as a major opportunity for aspirants preparing for state government recruitment examinations, particularly those whose eligibility was affected by delays in recruitment processes over recent years.

Officials believe the revised criteria will widen participation in recruitment drives and provide more employment opportunities to eligible candidates across the state.
