Jeypore Petrol Shortage Triggers Long Queues, Fuel Rationing Disrupts Daily Life

A severe petrol shortage has gripped Jeypore, leaving residents stranded, traffic disrupted, and long queues snaking outside fuel stations across the town.

Since early morning, motorists have been lining up at petrol pumps as limited supplies have failed to meet rising demand. The shortage has affected both two-wheelers and four-wheelers, with many commuters waiting for extended periods just to secure a small quantity of fuel.

Fuel Crisis Deepens Across Jeypore

Out of nearly seven to eight petrol pumps operating in Jeypore, around four to five are reportedly facing acute fuel scarcity. At present, only pumps near Ambedkar Chowk and Laxmi Panda Chowk have some petrol available, but the stock remains far below what is required.

To manage the limited supply, pump operators have introduced rationing.

  • Two-wheelers that typically require fuel worth Rs 300 to Rs 400 are being supplied only Rs 100 to Rs 200 worth of petrol.
  • Four-wheelers are being restricted to Rs 500 to Rs 700.
  • Diesel supply is also being regulated under similar restrictions.

The rationing has led to widespread frustration, especially among commuters who depend on their vehicles for work, travel, and essential errands.

Reduced Tanker Supply Behind Shortage

Jeypore generally receives petrol supplies from depots located in Paradip and Jharsuguda.

Petrol pump operators say that while regular supply used to arrive based on local demand, the frequency of tanker arrivals has dropped sharply in recent days. Instead of regular deliveries, only one or two tankers are reportedly reaching the town each week, worsening the shortage.

The sudden decline in supply has triggered panic buying among residents, with many attempting to purchase more fuel than usual amid uncertainty over when normal supply will resume.

Residents Voice Anger and Anxiety

The fuel shortage has caused significant inconvenience across the town.

Several residents said they had to visit multiple petrol pumps before finding one with limited stock. Many described waiting for more than half an hour in long queues, only to receive a fraction of the fuel they needed.

For commuters planning longer journeys, the situation has become particularly stressful. With no clarity on fuel availability, many fear they may not be able to complete their travel plans or return safely.

Police Deployed, Administration Yet to Clarify

To prevent congestion and maintain order, police personnel have been deployed at several fuel stations in Jeypore.

Despite the growing public inconvenience, the district administration has not yet issued any official statement explaining the cause of the shortage or when regular supply is expected to resume.

Meanwhile, two fuel tankers carrying petrol and diesel were seen arriving at one of the few operational pumps. However, the quantity delivered was still considered inadequate to ease the pressure.

With uncertainty continuing and public frustration mounting, residents are now awaiting urgent intervention from authorities to restore normal fuel supply in Jeypore.
