Odisha Govt Likely to Decide on Summer Vacation for Schools by April 27

The Odisha government is expected to take a final call on summer vacation for schools by April 27, School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond said.

Proposal Sent for CM’s Approval

The minister informed that a high-level meeting, chaired by the Revenue Minister and attended by the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), was held to discuss implementing a uniform summer holiday across the state. The proposal has now been forwarded to the Chief Minister for approval, and an official announcement is likely soon.

District-Level Assessment Underway

Earlier, Gond had stated that the decision would be based on ground reports submitted by district collectors. Authorities are focusing on districts experiencing severe heat conditions, particularly assessing the impact on school-going children.

Collectors have been directed to visit affected areas, evaluate the situation, and take interim decisions on school closures if necessary until a statewide directive is issued.

Rising Heatwave Concerns

The move comes amid intensifying heatwave conditions across Odisha, raising concerns over student safety and health. With temperatures soaring in several regions, the government is considering early summer holidays to prevent heat-related risks among children.

Parents and schools are now awaiting the final decision, which is expected to bring clarity on academic schedules during the ongoing heatwave.
