In a major boost to its renewable energy ambitions, Odisha has emerged as the top-performing state in the country under the utility-led aggregation (ULA) model of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
The achievement highlights Odisha’s strong implementation strategy and growing consumer participation in rooftop solar adoption.
Record Installations Achieved
The progress was reviewed during the 29th board meeting of the state’s power distribution companies, chaired by Chief Secretary Anu Garg.
According to official data, the state has completed around 84,888 rooftop solar installations so far. This includes:
- 55,888 installations under the standard scheme
- 29,000 installations through the ULA model
Separate figures indicate the total at 83,979, reflecting steady progress toward the state’s ambitious target of covering three lakh households.
Scaling Up Solar Adoption
To maintain its leading position, Odisha is planning a significant scale-up in implementation.
Authorities are aiming to achieve up to 25,000 installations per month in the coming phases. Power distribution companies (DISCOMs) have been tasked with accelerating deployment and ensuring wider access to solar energy across households.
Driving Energy Self-Reliance
The rooftop solar initiative is a key part of India’s broader clean energy transition. By promoting solar adoption at the household level, the scheme aims to reduce electricity costs, enhance energy security, and lower carbon emissions.
Odisha’s performance under the ULA model positions it as a frontrunner in sustainable energy adoption, setting an example for other states to follow.
With momentum building and targets expanding, the state is poised to play a crucial role in advancing India’s renewable energy goals.
