Bhubaneswar: Odisha is set to experience a prolonged spell of dry weather over the next seven days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a Yellow Warning for multiple districts as temperatures and humidity levels continue to rise.
Dry Weather Likely Till April 20
According to the latest forecast, dry weather conditions are expected to prevail across all districts of the state from April 14 to April 20, with no significant rainfall predicted. The absence of rain is likely to intensify heat conditions, particularly in coastal and western regions.
Hot and Humid Conditions in Coastal Districts
Hot and humid weather is expected at isolated places in several coastal and adjoining districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Bhubaneswar, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
The combination of high humidity and rising temperatures is expected to cause significant discomfort and increase the risk of heat-related illnesses such as dehydration and heat exhaustion.
Heatwave Conditions to Intensify
From April 15 onwards, heatwave conditions are likely to develop in parts of western Odisha and gradually intensify:
- April 15–16: Heatwave likely in Balangir, Kandhamal, Jharsuguda, and Sambalpur
- April 16–17: Conditions extend to Sonepur, Boudh, and Angul
- April 17–18: Additional districts like Nuapada and Nabarangpur come under impact
Wider Impact by Weekend
Between April 18 and April 20, the heatwave is expected to spread further, affecting districts such as Sundargarh, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj, in addition to already affected areas.
The expanding footprint of the heatwave signals a challenging week ahead, especially for residents in western and interior regions.
Advisory for Residents
Authorities have urged people to take necessary precautions to stay safe during the heatwave:
- Avoid stepping out during peak afternoon hours
- Stay well hydrated
- Wear light, breathable cotton clothing
- Take extra care of children, the elderly, and outdoor workers
With no immediate relief expected, Odisha is likely to see rising discomfort levels as summer conditions intensify across the state.
