Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to experience unsettled weather over the next five days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and heavy rainfall in several parts of the state.
For Friday, the weather department has issued a yellow warning for heavy rainfall in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Sundargarh. Several areas in these three districts could receive intense spells of rain during the day.
Heavy Rainfall Alert for Three Districts
According to the weather forecast, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Sundargarh are likely to witness heavy rainfall. Residents in these districts have been advised to remain alert, particularly during periods of intense weather activity.
The forecast comes amid continued atmospheric instability over Odisha, with several other areas also likely to experience thunderstorms and lightning.
Thunderstorms, Lightning Across More Areas
Apart from the three districts under the yellow warning, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely in several parts of northern and coastal Odisha.
Similar weather conditions have been forecast in Ganjam, Gajapati, Nayagarh, Khordha, Puri and Cuttack. Other districts may also experience isolated thunderstorms and lightning during the period.
The IMD has forecast gusty winds of around 30-40 kmph during thunderstorms in the affected areas, increasing the risk of disruptions and weather-related incidents.
Residents Advised to Remain Cautious
With lightning and strong winds expected in several districts, residents have been advised to exercise caution during thunderstorms and avoid unnecessary exposure outdoors during severe weather.
People in areas receiving heavy rainfall should also remain alert for temporary waterlogging and difficult travel conditions, particularly during intense spells.
The IMD’s five-day outlook indicates that rainfall and thunderstorm activity may continue across Odisha, making it important for residents to keep track of updated weather warnings and local advisories.
