New Delhi: The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Monday declared that the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination was conducted smoothly and without any major glitches, crediting extensive security arrangements and coordinated efforts by multiple government agencies for ensuring a fair and transparent examination process.
Speaking after the successful completion of the re-examination, NTA Director General Abhishek Singh stated that the agency adopted a zero-tolerance approach towards malpractice and implemented robust measures to safeguard the integrity of the country’s largest medical entrance examination.
NTA Claims Error-Free Conduct of NEET-UG Re-Exam
Abhishek Singh described the examination as one of the most secure and efficiently managed entrance tests conducted in recent years.
He said the NTA worked closely with central and state government agencies, law enforcement authorities, and local administrations to create a secure examination environment for over 20 lakh candidates who appeared for the test across India and several overseas centres.
According to Singh, the primary objective was to maintain a balance between stringent security protocols and student convenience while ensuring that no irregularities occurred during the examination process.
“We took every possible measure to ensure a smooth, secure, and transparent examination. Our focus was on maintaining zero tolerance towards any form of malpractice while minimizing inconvenience for candidates,” he said.
Telegram Restrictions Implemented to Prevent Rumours and Fraud
One of the major measures taken before the re-examination was the temporary restriction on Telegram services in India from June 16 to June 22.
The NTA said the decision was necessary because several Telegram channels were allegedly spreading false claims regarding question paper leaks and misleading students by offering fake examination papers in exchange for money.
Singh emphasized that the agency was completely confident about the security of the examination papers and the integrity of the question paper distribution system.
He noted that misinformation circulating on social media platforms created unnecessary anxiety among students and parents, particularly because candidates appearing for NEET are generally between 17 and 18 years of age.
“False rumours about paper leaks can significantly increase mental stress among students. Such misinformation not only creates panic but also gives fraudsters an opportunity to exploit candidates and their families financially,” Singh said.
Strong Security Measures Across Examination Centres
The NEET-UG 2026 re-examination was conducted under an extensive multi-layered security framework.
Security arrangements included:
- Aadhaar-based biometric verification
- Facial recognition authentication
- Two-level frisking procedures
- CCTV surveillance at examination centres
- Signal jammers to block unauthorised communication
- Real-time monitoring through command-and-control centres
- Coordination with district administrations and law enforcement agencies
The examination was conducted in 13 languages at 5,440 centres across India and 14 international locations.
Officials stated that these measures helped ensure that the examination process remained free from leaks, impersonation attempts, and other forms of malpractice.
Warning Against Fake Posts and Exam Scams
The NTA Director General also warned individuals and groups involved in spreading fake information related to examination leaks or conducting online scams targeting students.
He stated that authorities are closely monitoring social media platforms and digital communication channels to identify those attempting to mislead candidates.
According to Singh, cases involving fake question papers, fabricated screenshots, and fraudulent claims are already under investigation, and strict legal action will be taken against those found responsible.
“Anyone trying to create panic, circulate fake content, or financially exploit students will face strong action from law enforcement agencies,” he said.
‘Whole-of-Government Approach’ Ensured Success
Singh described the successful conduct of the examination as the result of a collective national effort involving multiple stakeholders.
He acknowledged the support received from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Home Affairs, state governments, district administrations, security agencies, school authorities, students, and parents.
Calling it a “whole-of-government and whole-of-India approach,” he said the coordinated effort sent a clear message that attempts to manipulate the examination system would not succeed.
Over 20 Lakh Candidates Appeared
The NEET-UG 2026 re-examination was conducted amid heightened scrutiny following previous allegations related to paper leaks.
Despite these concerns, the NTA maintained that the re-examination was held successfully and without any compromise to its integrity.
More than 20 lakh candidates appeared for the examination, making it one of the largest entrance tests conducted globally.
The agency reiterated that there was no possibility of any question paper leak during the re-examination and assured candidates that the evaluation process would proceed as per schedule.
With the re-test now completed, attention will shift towards result processing and counselling preparations for medical admissions across the country.
