Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, directed by veteran filmmaker David Dhawan and starring Varun Dhawan, Pooja Hegde and Mrunal Thakur, continues to face a challenging run at the box office despite a wide release across the country.
The romantic comedy, which hit theatres on Friday, has failed to generate strong momentum among audiences. After a modest opening weekend, the film witnessed a significant drop in collections on Monday, raising concerns about its long-term theatrical performance.
Box Office Performance
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned approximately ₹2.59 crore on Monday, marking its lowest single-day collection since release.
The film’s day-wise collections stand as follows:
- Friday: ₹7.50 crore
- Saturday: ₹7.25 crore
- Sunday: ₹9 crore
- Monday: ₹2.59 crore
With this, the film’s total collection has reached ₹26.59 crore net and around ₹31.86 crore gross in India after four days.
Despite releasing on more than 2,500 screens nationwide, the film recorded weak occupancy levels across most regions, indicating limited audience traction.
Storyline
The film revolves around Jass, played by Varun Dhawan, whose marriage with Bani, portrayed by Mrunal Thakur, falls apart after personal differences create tensions in their relationship. As Jass attempts to move on with Preet, played by Pooja Hegde, the situation spirals into chaos when both women become pregnant, leading to a series of comic misunderstandings and dramatic twists.
David Dhawan’s Farewell Film
The film holds special significance as it is reportedly the final directorial venture of David Dhawan, one of Bollywood’s most successful comedy filmmakers.
Over the decades, Dhawan has delivered several blockbuster entertainers featuring some of Hindi cinema’s biggest stars, including Salman Khan, Govinda, Sanjay Dutt, Akshay Kumar and Anil Kapoor.
His most celebrated films include Biwi No.1, Judwaa, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Partner, Raja Babu, Haseena Maan Jaayegi and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan.
While Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai has managed to cross the ₹25-crore mark, its future at the box office will largely depend on audience word-of-mouth and its ability to sustain collections during the weekdays.
