Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Italy on Tuesday and held meetings with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and President Sergio Mattarella to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
The Italy visit marks the final leg of PM Modi’s five-nation tour, which also included visits to the United Arab Emirates, Netherlands, Sweden and Norway.
Focus On Strategic Partnership
India and Italy have been expanding ties under the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025–2029, which focuses on cooperation in areas such as trade, defence, investment, innovation, clean energy, science and technology, and cultural exchanges.
Sharing a photograph with PM Modi on X, Giorgia Meloni wrote, “Welcome to Rome, my friend!” She also shared an earlier picture with Modi taken at the iconic Colosseum.
PM Modi also posted pictures from the visit and said he had an opportunity to meet PM Meloni over dinner followed by a visit to the Colosseum.
“We exchanged perspectives on a wide range of subjects. Looking forward to our talks today, where we will continue the conversation on how to boost the India-Italy friendship,” Modi stated.
PM Modi Interacts With Indian Diaspora
During his visit to Rome, PM Modi also interacted with members of the Indian diaspora and attended cultural programmes organised in his honour.
He reportedly signed an autograph for a child who welcomed him with a portrait and met representatives of the Sanatana Dharma Samgha.
The Prime Minister also witnessed an Italian artist’s painting of the ghats of Varanasi and attended a musical performance based on Raga Hamsadhwani.
The visit is expected to further strengthen diplomatic and economic ties between India and Italy amid growing cooperation between the two countries across multiple sectors.
