Bhubaneswar: A shift in weather conditions is expected across Odisha from Monday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in several districts. The development comes amid intense heatwave conditions gripping large parts of the state.
Rain Likely in North and South Odisha
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre Bhubaneswar, districts in southern Odisha such as Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, and Koraput are likely to witness light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms.
In northern parts, districts including Balasore and Mayurbhanj may also experience similar weather activity.
The anticipated rain is expected to bring slight variation in weather conditions in these regions, offering limited respite from the ongoing heat.
Heatwave Continues to Grip State
Despite the forecast of rainfall in some areas, most parts of Odisha continue to reel under severe heat. Coastal districts are facing hot and humid conditions, while western regions remain under the influence of an intense heatwave.
On Sunday, Jharsuguda recorded the highest temperature in the state at a scorching 44.8°C, highlighting the severity of the prevailing conditions.
Humidity to Persist in Coastal Areas
The IMD has indicated that several coastal districts will continue to experience high temperatures combined with humidity, leading to uncomfortable and sultry weather. Immediate relief is unlikely in these areas, even as thunderstorms impact select districts.
Advisory for Residents
Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorms and lightning activity, avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure during peak heat hours, and stay hydrated as fluctuating weather conditions continue across the state.
