200 Homes in Ganjam to Get Solar Power Under PM Surya Ghar Scheme

Chhatrapur: In a major step toward promoting clean energy and rural electrification, the Ganjam district administration has provided rooftop solar power systems to nearly 200 households under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.

The initiative has been implemented in Matikhal village under Chhatrapur block, which has now been developed as Ganjam district’s first Model Solar Village. The project has been carried out under the leadership of Ganjam District Collector V. Keerthi Vasan, who has been actively promoting sustainable energy solutions in rural areas.

Matikhal Becomes First Model Solar Village in Ganjam

As part of the programme, solar panels have been installed on the rooftops of around 200 houses, enabling families to generate their own electricity and reduce their dependence on conventional power supply.

The initiative has been executed with financial support from District Mineral Foundation (DMF) funds and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) contributions, helping transform Matikhal into a model solar-powered village.

Officials say the project will not only reduce electricity costs for households but also encourage the adoption of renewable energy in rural communities.

Focus on Clean and Affordable Energy

The rooftop solar systems will allow residents to use electricity more efficiently while lowering monthly power bills. The initiative also aligns with the Central Government’s PM Surya Ghar Bijli Yojana, which aims to promote solar energy adoption across households in India.

District officials believe that such initiatives are crucial for ensuring energy security, environmental sustainability, and long-term rural development.

Plan to Expand Solar Coverage Across Ganjam

Encouraged by the success of the project in Matikhal, the district administration has announced plans to expand the solar initiative to other villages in Chhatrapur block and across Ganjam district.

The Collector has also announced that around 100 beneficiaries from each panchayat will be included under the PM Surya Ghar scheme this year, further accelerating the district’s transition toward clean energy.

Villagers Welcome the Initiative

Local residents have expressed happiness over the installation of rooftop solar panels in their homes, noting that the initiative will help reduce electricity expenses and improve access to reliable power.

Villagers have also appreciated the efforts of Ganjam Collector V. Keerthi Vasan, thanking the district administration for taking steps that directly benefit rural households.

Boost to Rural Development

Officials say the project represents a significant milestone in promoting sustainable development and renewable energy adoption in the district. By encouraging households to switch to solar power, the administration aims to build energy-resilient villages and reduce dependence on traditional electricity sources.

With plans to replicate the model in other parts of the district, the solar village initiative could play a key role in transforming Ganjam into a leader in rural solar energy adoption in Odisha.
