IMD Issues Yellow Alert for 13 Odisha Districts

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for 13 districts of Odisha for Friday, warning of thunderstorms, lightning and rainfall as the Southwest Monsoon continues to withdraw from the state.

According to the forecast, some places in the alerted districts may experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 30 to 40 kmph. However, no weather warning has been issued for any district for Saturday.

Thunderstorms and Rain Likely in Several Districts

The yellow warning covers parts of northern, coastal and southern Odisha. Residents in the affected areas are advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms and avoid exposed locations during lightning activity.

Gusty winds and sudden rainfall may also affect local travel and outdoor activities in areas experiencing stormy weather.

Southwest Monsoon Withdraws From Parts of Odisha

The Southwest Monsoon has started withdrawing from Odisha, with the process advancing across several districts.

On Thursday, the monsoon withdrew from most parts of Bargarh district. It also retreated from some areas of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bolangir, Nuapada and Nabarangpur.

The withdrawal marks a gradual transition away from the southwest monsoon season, although rainfall and thunderstorms can still occur under the influence of other weather conditions.

More Areas May See Monsoon Withdrawal

Weather conditions are becoming favourable for the Southwest Monsoon to withdraw from additional parts of eastern India over the next two to three days, according to the forecast.

Despite the advancing withdrawal, thunderstorms and rain remain possible in Odisha’s alerted districts. Residents are advised to follow official IMD updates for the latest weather warnings and forecasts.
