Sportking India is set to establish a new greenfield spinning plant in Khordha district of Odisha with an investment of approximately Rs 1,000 crore.
The proposed project is expected to strengthen Odisha’s textile manufacturing sector and generate more than 6,000 direct employment opportunities.
According to the project timeline, the facility is expected to commence commercial operations in the third quarter of the financial year 2026-27 (Q3 FY27).
Land Secured, Construction Underway
The company has already secured land for the proposed spinning facility, while construction work is currently underway.
Machinery orders for the project have also reportedly been placed, indicating that work on establishing the greenfield facility is progressing.
Once operational, the plant is expected to add significant spinning capacity to Odisha’s textile and apparel manufacturing ecosystem.
Investment To Strengthen Odisha’s Textile Sector
The proposed Sportking investment comes as Odisha seeks to expand its textile and apparel manufacturing base.
The state government has been promoting investments across different stages of the textile value chain, including spinning, textile processing, technical textiles and garment manufacturing.
The new facility could contribute to the development of an integrated textile ecosystem by increasing the availability of yarn and supporting downstream manufacturing activities.
Khordha Emerges As Textile Investment Destination
Khordha has been emerging as an important location for textile-related investments due to its connectivity and proximity to major markets.
Odisha’s geographical location provides manufacturers with access to markets across eastern India. Its coastline and proximity to major ports can also provide logistical advantages for companies targeting export markets.
These factors, combined with state-level infrastructure and policy support, are being positioned as incentives for textile companies considering investments in Odisha.
Textile Parks Across Odisha
The state has developed several textile-focused industrial parks aimed at supporting different segments of the industry.
Textile parks have been developed at Bhuinpur, Kalibeti and Balianta in Khordha, as well as Ramdaspur in Cuttack.
Odisha has also established technical textile parks in Bhadrak, supporting the state’s efforts to expand into specialised textile manufacturing.
These industrial clusters are intended to bring different stages of production closer together, potentially reducing transportation requirements and improving supply-chain efficiency.
Policy Incentives For Textile Investments
Odisha’s Apparel and Technical Textiles Policy provides various incentives for eligible investments in the sector.
These include capital and employment-linked incentives, along with employment-cost support for eligible workers during the initial years of commercial operations.
The policy framework is designed to encourage companies to establish manufacturing facilities while generating employment and strengthening the state’s industrial ecosystem.
Over 6,000 Direct Jobs Expected
The Sportking India project is expected to create more than 6,000 direct jobs once the facility becomes operational.
The investment could also generate indirect employment opportunities through transportation, logistics, maintenance, raw-material supply and other activities associated with the textile value chain.
With construction already underway and machinery orders placed, the project is expected to become an important addition to Odisha’s growing textile manufacturing capacity.
