Odisha has earned recognition at the national level with two school teachers selected for the National Teachers Awards 2026, honouring their contribution to education and student development.
The prestigious awards are presented by the Department of School Education and Literacy under the Union Ministry of Education to acknowledge teachers who have made notable contributions to school education.
Teachers From Mayurbhanj, Jagatsinghpur Selected
The two teachers selected from Odisha are Md. Zafar Alam, from Eklavya Model Residential School in Karanjia, Mayurbhanj, and Padaraj Umakanta Nayak, from Government High School in Alipingal, Jagatsinghpur.
Their selection highlights the contribution of teachers working in government and residential schools across Odisha and their efforts to improve the learning experience of students.
48 Teachers to Receive National Honour
A total of 48 school teachers from across India have been selected for the National Teachers Awards 2026.
The awardees will be felicitated by the President of India on September 5, observed as Teachers’ Day. The annual recognition celebrates educators who have demonstrated excellence in teaching and contributed to the academic and overall development of students.
Awardees to Receive Cash Prize and Silver Medal
Each recipient of the National Teachers Award will receive a certificate of merit, a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and a silver medal.
The recognition is considered a significant honour for teachers and acknowledges their dedication to strengthening school education.
The selection of Md. Zafar Alam and Padaraj Umakanta Nayak has brought national attention to Odisha’s education sector, particularly the work being carried out by teachers in Mayurbhanj and Jagatsinghpur.
