Bhubaneswar: Renowned poet, essayist and former CSIR-IMMT scientist Dr Ashutosh Parida has been selected for the 47th Sarala Puraskar, one of Odisha’s most prestigious honours for outstanding contributions to Odia literature.
Dr Parida has been chosen for the award for his acclaimed poetry collection ‘Bishwas De Pruthwi’, published in 2024 by Prabha Publication. The recognition acknowledges the literary significance of the collection and his contribution to contemporary Odia poetry.
He will receive a citation and a cash prize of Rs 7 lakh at an award ceremony scheduled to be held on October 25.
‘Bishwas De Pruthwi’ Earns Prestigious Recognition
The award-winning poetry collection has established Dr Parida as a significant voice in contemporary Odia literature. His work as a poet and essayist has contributed to the evolving landscape of Odia literary expression.
The Sarala Puraskar is awarded annually to recognise outstanding literary works written in Odia. The award is presented by Indian Metals Public Charitable Trust (IMPaCT), the social and charitable wing of IMFA.
Over the years, the honour has recognised several prominent writers and literary works that have made a lasting contribution to Odia language and literature.
Ila-Bansidhar Panda Kala Samman Announced
Alongside the Sarala Puraskar, the Ila-Bansidhar Panda Kala Samman was also announced for this year.
Renowned Odissi dance guru and Padma Shri awardee Durga Charan Ranbir, along with artist and art educator Damodar Behera, have been selected for the honour in recognition of their contributions to Odisha’s art and cultural heritage.
Both recipients will receive a citation, Rs 2.5 lakh in cash and a copper plaque.
The award recognises individuals who have made notable contributions towards preserving, promoting and enriching Odisha’s artistic and cultural traditions.
CM Majhi Congratulates Dr Parida
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi congratulated Dr Ashutosh Parida on his selection for the prestigious literary award.
The Chief Minister praised the poet’s contribution to Odia language and literature, describing his literary journey as an important contribution to the enrichment of Odisha’s cultural and intellectual heritage.
Dr Parida’s selection for the 47th Sarala Puraskar is being regarded as a major milestone in his literary career and another recognition of the strength and diversity of contemporary Odia poetry.
The honour also highlights the continuing importance of Odia literature in preserving the state’s cultural identity while giving contemporary writers a platform to reach wider audiences.
