Cuttack: The ambitious redevelopment of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack is progressing steadily, with the Odisha government intensifying efforts to transform the premier healthcare institution into a modern, world-class medical facility.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi reviewed the progress of the ongoing redevelopment works during a high-level meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan on Wednesday. The meeting focused on the status of major infrastructure projects being undertaken as part of the comprehensive redevelopment plan for the hospital.
Four New Clinical Blocks Taking Shape
Officials informed the Chief Minister that construction of four new clinical blocks is progressing rapidly on the SCB campus. Alongside these facilities, a new residential block is also being constructed for the institution.
The residential building has reportedly reached the final stages of construction and is nearing completion. Meanwhile, the four clinical blocks are targeted for completion by June next year.
The new facilities are expected to significantly expand SCB’s capacity and provide additional infrastructure for clinical services, helping the institution cater to the growing healthcare needs of patients from Cuttack as well as other parts of Odisha.
CM Directs Proposal for Another Medicine Block
During the review meeting, Chief Minister Majhi also directed officials to initiate steps for construction of an additional Medicine Block at SCB Medical College and Hospital.
He asked the concerned authorities to identify an appropriate location for the proposed facility and submit a detailed proposal at the earliest. The move is expected to further strengthen the hospital’s clinical infrastructure and improve the availability of specialised medical services.
Multi-Level Parking Facility Also Reviewed
The government also reviewed the progress of the multi-level car parking facility being constructed under the first phase of the SCB redevelopment project.
The parking facility is expected to address congestion and parking-related challenges within and around the sprawling hospital campus. Progress of other supporting infrastructure and allied development works was also examined during the meeting.
Officials were directed to maintain the pace of construction and ensure that the various components of the redevelopment project are completed within the prescribed timelines.
SCB Set for Major Healthcare Transformation
The redevelopment programme is aimed at giving SCB Medical College and Hospital a major infrastructure upgrade, with modern facilities designed to support advanced healthcare delivery.
As one of Odisha’s key medical institutions, SCB caters to patients from across the state and neighbouring regions. The planned expansion and modernisation are expected to improve healthcare capacity, patient services and the overall hospital environment.
The government’s focus on new clinical infrastructure, residential facilities, parking and other allied projects is part of its broader effort to strengthen public healthcare infrastructure in Odisha.
Hanuman Vatika Development Also Discussed
Apart from the SCB redevelopment project, the meeting also discussed the proposed development of Hanuman Vatika in Rourkela and plans for transforming areas surrounding the prominent landmark.
The review of multiple infrastructure projects reflects the state government’s focus on accelerating major development works while strengthening healthcare and urban infrastructure across Odisha.
