Fuel Prices Rise Again In Odisha; Diesel Crosses Rs 100 In Bhubaneswar

Residents of Bhubaneswar faced another major fuel price shock on Monday as diesel prices crossed the Rs 100 mark following the latest hike in petrol and diesel rates across the country.

After the fresh revision, diesel in the Odisha capital is now retailing at Rs 100.81 per litre, while petrol prices have climbed to Rs 109.16 per litre. The latest increase comes after diesel prices rose by Rs 2.71 per litre and petrol by Rs 2.61 per litre.

This marks the fourth fuel price hike within just 10 days, further increasing financial pressure on commuters, transport operators and middle-class families already struggling with rising living costs.

Petrol And Diesel Prices See Sharp Jump

Before the latest hike, petrol in Bhubaneswar was being sold at Rs 106.33 per litre, while diesel was priced at Rs 97.92 per litre.

Premium speed petrol prices have also registered a sharp increase and are now retailing at Rs 118.27 per litre in the city.

The repeated upward revisions in fuel prices have become a growing concern for office-goers, two-wheeler users, cab operators and small transport businesses that rely heavily on petrol and diesel for daily operations.

Major Indian Cities Also Witness Price Rise

The latest hike has impacted fuel prices in several major cities across India.

In New Delhi, petrol is now being sold at Rs 102.12 per litre, while diesel costs Rs 95.20 per litre.

Similarly, in Kolkata, petrol prices have climbed to Rs 113.51 per litre and diesel to Rs 99.82 per litre.

In Mumbai, petrol has risen to Rs 111.21 per litre, while diesel is retailing at Rs 97.83 per litre.

Meanwhile, Chennai recorded petrol prices at Rs 107.77 per litre and diesel at Rs 99.55 per litre.

Concerns Grow Over Continuous Fuel Hikes

Experts have linked the continuous rise in fuel prices to the ongoing tensions and conflict situation in the Middle East, which has affected global crude oil markets.

The repeated increase in petrol and diesel prices within a short span has triggered widespread concern among consumers, as higher fuel costs are expected to impact transportation expenses and lead to further inflation in the prices of essential commodities.

There are also growing fears that fuel prices may continue to increase in the coming days, placing additional financial strain on households, businesses and the transport sector across Odisha.

Recently, the Odisha government also directed government offices to minimise the use of petrol and diesel vehicles and gradually adopt electric vehicles as part of fuel conservation measures.
