A fire broke out in the B-1 coach of the Thiruvananthapuram–Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express on Sunday while the train was travelling between Luni Richha and Vikramgarh Alot stations, railway officials said.
According to the West Central Railway, the fire was reported near the SLR end of the coach at kilometre point 729/02 in the Down direction.
Passengers Evacuated Immediately
Railway authorities acted swiftly after the incident was detected and safely evacuated all passengers from the affected B-1 coach. Officials confirmed that no injuries or casualties were reported among passengers or railway staff.
As a precautionary measure, the overhead electric (OHE) supply on the route was immediately switched off to prevent any further danger.
The damaged coach was later detached from the train rake while railway personnel and senior officials carried out firefighting operations at the site.
Train Movement Affected
The incident briefly disrupted rail traffic on the route. Railway authorities stated that Train No. 12955 was detained at Mahidpur Road station for some time due to the emergency situation.
Efforts were launched to clear the affected section and restore normal train operations at the earliest.
Probe Underway
Officials said the exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
The railway administration has initiated an investigation into the incident to ascertain how the fire started and whether any technical fault or other factors were involved.
