Delhi Capitals pulled off a thrilling three-wicket victory over Punjab Kings in a high-scoring IPL 2026 clash in Dharamshala on Monday. Chasing a daunting target of 211, Delhi Capitals recovered from a shaky start with match-winning knocks from skipper Axar Patel and veteran batter David Miller.
Axar Patel, David Miller Lead DC Fightback
Delhi Capitals suffered an early collapse during the chase as openers Abishek Porel and KL Rahul departed cheaply inside the powerplay.
Porel managed just five runs before being dismissed by Yash Thakur in the second over. Soon after, Marco Jansen produced a stunning catch to remove Rahul for 9, giving Punjab Kings a dream start.
DC’s troubles continued when Sahil Parakh was dismissed for 13 after a fine catch by Yuzvendra Chahal in the fifth over.
However, captain Axar Patel turned the game around with a blistering knock of 56 off just 30 balls. The all-rounder attacked the Punjab bowlers aggressively before eventually losing his wicket to Marcus Stoinis.
David Miller then anchored the chase brilliantly with a composed yet explosive 51 off 28 deliveries. The South African batter kept Delhi in the hunt during the death overs before Ben Dwarshuis dismissed him.
Despite late pressure, Delhi Capitals held their nerve to chase down the target and secure a crucial victory.
Priyansh Arya, Shreyas Iyer Shine For PBKS
Earlier, Punjab Kings posted a formidable total of 210/5 in 20 overs after an impressive batting performance led by Priyansh Arya and skipper Shreyas Iyer.
Priyansh Arya provided an explosive start at the top, smashing 56 off 33 balls with the help of two boundaries and six towering sixes.
Captain Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten on 59 off 36 deliveries, striking five fours and three sixes during his fluent innings.
Suryansh Shedge added valuable runs in the final overs with a quickfire unbeaten 21 off just eight balls, including two fours and two sixes, helping Punjab Kings cross the 200-run mark.
For Delhi Capitals, Madhav Tiwari and Mitchell Starc claimed two wickets each.
Early Bowling Decision Pays Off
Delhi Capitals had earlier won the toss and opted to bowl first in Dharamshala. Though Punjab Kings posted a massive total, DC’s middle-order resilience eventually proved decisive in one of the most entertaining matches of the IPL 2026 season.
The victory keeps Delhi Capitals alive in the playoff race, while Punjab Kings will be disappointed after failing to defend a strong total despite early breakthroughs.
