Odisha Fuel Supply Normal, No Shortage of Petrol or Diesel: Oil Companies Urge Public Not to Panic

Amid reports of temporary fuel scarcity in parts of Odisha, state-run Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have assured consumers that petrol and diesel supplies remain stable across the state and that there is no cause for concern.

According to the companies, a brief spike in demand in some border districts led to temporary pressure on fuel availability at a few retail outlets earlier this month. However, the situation has now been brought under control through rapid logistical intervention.

Sudden rise in demand caused temporary disruption

At the beginning of May, select districts near Odisha’s borders witnessed an unexpected increase in fuel demand. This led to short-lived supply pressure at a limited number of petrol pumps, triggering concern among commuters and local residents.

OMCs clarified that the issue was not due to any shortage of petroleum products but was the result of a sudden demand surge in isolated pockets.

Additional tankers deployed to restore supply

To address the temporary imbalance, oil companies mobilised additional tank trucks to speed up fuel movement to affected areas. Stocks at key depots and retail outlets were replenished on priority.

Officials also initiated close monitoring of fuel inventory across the state, with special attention given to outlets reporting low stock levels. These steps helped restore normal supply at fuel stations without major disruption.

Retail fuel stations operating normally

OMCs said petrol pumps across Odisha are now functioning normally and are adequately stocked with both petrol and diesel.

To ensure smooth public distribution, industrial and bulk consumers have been advised to source fuel directly from the oil companies rather than from retail outlets. The companies noted that retail fuel stations are not authorised to cater to bulk sales, and diverting supplies for such purposes can affect regular consumer availability.

Public urged not to panic buy

Oil companies have appealed to citizens not to indulge in panic buying, stressing that such behaviour can create unnecessary pressure on the supply chain.

They also urged people to rely only on official communication for updates related to fuel availability and avoid rumours or unverified social media claims.

The OMCs reiterated that the overall fuel supply situation in Odisha remains stable, and coordinated efforts are in place to ensure uninterrupted availability of petrol and diesel across the state.
