PM Modi Hails BJP Surge in West Bengal as ‘Historic Mandate’

As counting trends pointed to a sweeping victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party in the West Bengal Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the outcome as a defining moment in the political history of West Bengal.

In a message posted on X, the Prime Minister said the election would be remembered as a landmark verdict driven by the will of the people.

“The Lotus blooms in West Bengal. The 2026 West Bengal Assembly Elections will be remembered forever. People’s power has prevailed and BJP’s politics of good governance has triumphed,” Modi wrote, thanking the people of the state for their support.

BJP Calls It a Transformational Verdict

With trends showing the BJP moving comfortably past the majority mark, the party’s performance is being seen as a major political breakthrough in a state long dominated by the All India Trinamool Congress.

Calling the mandate “spectacular,” Modi said the BJP would work to fulfil the aspirations of the people of Bengal and ensure governance focused on opportunity, development, and dignity for every section of society.

He said the party remained committed to translating electoral support into effective governance and inclusive growth. Reports through the day showed the BJP maintaining a commanding lead, marking what could be its first government in the state.

Tribute to BJP Workers

The Prime Minister also credited the victory to the efforts of BJP workers who, he said, had worked for years under difficult circumstances to build the party’s presence across Bengal.

He praised party workers for staying committed to the BJP’s development agenda and overcoming political adversity on the ground.

According to Modi, the victory was the result of sustained grassroots work over several years, with karyakartas playing a central role in taking the party’s message to voters across urban and rural constituencies.

A Major Political Shift in Bengal

If the current trends hold, the result could mark one of the biggest political shifts in recent years in West Bengal. The state has remained one of India’s most fiercely contested political battlegrounds, and the emerging numbers indicate a significant reshaping of its electoral landscape.

With counting still underway, attention remains on whether the BJP can convert its strong lead into a historic final victory.
