Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued multiple weather alerts for Odisha, warning of widespread rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across several districts in the coming days due to the influence of two upper-air cyclonic circulations affecting the region.
Meteorologists have cautioned residents to remain alert as the evolving atmospheric conditions may lead to severe thunderstorm activity and strong winds in isolated areas, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours.
Cyclonic Systems Influencing Odisha’s Weather
According to the IMD, a cyclonic circulation has developed over Odisha and its neighbouring regions at about 0.9 km above mean sea level, which is currently shaping the weather pattern across the state.
In addition, another upper-air cyclonic circulation persists over the west-central Bay of Bengal, off the south coastal Andhra Pradesh region at around 1.5 km above mean sea level. This system is expected to further intensify weather disturbances over Odisha.
The interaction between these systems is likely to trigger convective activity, resulting in thunderstorms, lightning strikes, and gusty winds across several districts.
Day 1 Forecast (Valid up to 08:30 AM IST, April 7)
The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms at several places across Odisha.
