Government Steps Up Measures to Ensure Fuel and LPG Supply; Digital LPG Deliveries See Sharp Rise

The Government of India has intensified efforts to ensure the uninterrupted availability of petrol, diesel, and LPG across the country, while urging citizens to rely on digital platforms for LPG bookings instead of visiting distributors unless absolutely necessary.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas stated that several steps have been taken to improve transparency in LPG distribution and strengthen fuel supply systems nationwide.

Digital Authentication Boosts LPG Delivery Transparency

A key highlight of the government’s initiative is the sharp increase in Delivery Authentication Code (DAC)-based LPG deliveries.

According to the ministry, DAC-based deliveries have risen significantly from 53 percent in February 2026 to nearly 90 percent as of yesterday. The system requires customers to provide a one-time code to delivery personnel, ensuring that cylinders are delivered to the correct recipient.

Officials say the measure has been introduced to prevent diversion of LPG cylinders at the distributor level and improve accountability in the supply chain.

Growing Demand for 5 Kg LPG Cylinders

The government also reported a strong response to 5 Kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders, which are designed to provide easy access to cooking fuel for consumers who may not have regular domestic connections.

More than 90,000 small LPG cylinders were sold in a single day, reflecting increasing demand.

These cylinders can be purchased from nearby LPG distributorships by presenting any valid identity proof, without the need for address verification. The facility is particularly useful for migrant workers, temporary residents, and individuals without permanent LPG connections.

Increase in PNG Connections and New Customers

The expansion of cleaner cooking and fuel options continues with the growth of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections.

Since March 2026, authorities have activated around 3.6 lakh new PNG connections, while over 3.9 lakh customers have registered for new gas connections, indicating steady growth in energy access across the country.

Port Operations Continue Normally

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways confirmed that port operations across India remain normal, with no incidents involving Indian-flagged vessels reported in the past 24 hours.

The Director General of Shipping has also coordinated efforts to assist Indian seafarers affected by international developments. So far, more than 1,479 Indian seafarers have been safely repatriated, including 159 in the last 24 hours alone.

Monitoring Situation in West Asia

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said it is closely monitoring developments in the Gulf and West Asia region.

Authorities confirmed that 345 stranded Indian fishermen returned from Iran yesterday, while over 7.02 lakh passengers have travelled back to India since February 28, as part of ongoing efforts to assist Indian nationals affected by regional tensions.

Officials emphasised that the government continues to closely monitor energy supplies, international developments, and logistics networks to ensure that fuel and LPG availability across India remains stable.
