In a major boost to Odisha’s mining potential, the state government has announced the discovery of diamond-bearing stones in the Nuapada district, further cementing the state’s reputation as one of India’s most resource-rich regions.
The development was revealed in the State Assembly by Mines Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena on Thursday.
Diamonds Found in Nuapada
According to the Minister, diamond-bearing stones have been identified in the Kalamidadar area of Nuapada. While the discovery has generated excitement, the government has initiated detailed technical, economic, and feasibility studies to determine whether commercial mining operations can be undertaken.
Ruby Traces in Kalahandi
In another significant find, traces of rubies (locally known as manik) have been reported in the Hinjilibahal–Jilingibar belt under Junagarh block in Kalahandi district. This points to the possible presence of high-value gemstone reserves in the region.
Multi-Mineral Deposits in Deogarh
The Minister also highlighted discoveries in Deogarh district, particularly in the Reamal area, where surveys have detected:

These findings indicate a diverse and valuable mineral base, which could significantly enhance industrial development.
