A fresh hike in edible oil prices has sparked concern among consumers across Odisha, with the cost of cooking oil increasing by around ₹10 per litre in recent days. The sudden rise has placed additional pressure on household budgets, particularly affecting middle-class families who rely heavily on essential food commodities.
Cooking oil is a staple ingredient in everyday meals, and the latest increase is now being felt in kitchens across the state. Consumers say the rising cost of essential food items is making it increasingly difficult to manage monthly household expenses.
Homemakers Feel the Impact
Homemakers, who largely manage daily household spending, say frequent increases in the prices of essential commodities are forcing families to rethink their cooking and purchasing habits.
Many households are now trying to adjust consumption patterns and cut down on expenses to cope with the rising prices of cooking essentials.
Sabita Chhatoi, a homemaker, said the price hike has added financial pressure on middle-class families.
She said edible oil is an essential ingredient used in daily cooking and the sudden increase in its price has made it difficult for families to maintain their usual consumption levels. According to her, households are now being forced to carefully plan their spending and adjust cooking habits to cope with the rising costs.
Rising Cost of Essentials Raises Concerns
Another homemaker, Minati Sethi, said she became aware of the price hike during a recent visit to the local market.
She said the prices of several essential cooking items have increased significantly, making it difficult to manage household budgets. According to her, cooking oil and LPG are basic necessities in every home, and any rise in their prices directly affects daily life.
Consumers fear that if the prices of essential commodities continue to rise, it may become increasingly difficult for middle-class families to manage regular household expenses.
The latest price hike has therefore triggered anxiety among many families in Odisha, as they attempt to balance their household budgets amid rising food costs.
