Several parts of Odisha are likely to experience rainfall over the next three days starting Saturday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The Regional Meteorological Centre Bhubaneswar has forecast light to moderate rain in many districts, with the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning in some areas.
Weather officials said most districts in the state may receive rainfall during this period. The northern coastal districts, in particular, may witness rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning activity.
Weather Warnings Issued for Multiple Districts
The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow warning for 12 districts on Saturday, while weather alerts have been extended to 24 districts for Sunday due to the likelihood of rain and thunderstorms.
Among them, four districts — Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Balasore — have been placed under an orange warning for March 8. These areas are expected to receive heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, with wind speeds reaching 40 to 50 km per hour.
Manorama Mohanty, Director of the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, said several districts in northern Odisha are likely to witness rain and thunderstorms on March 7.
According to the forecast, districts including Jharsuguda, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Cuttack and Khordha may also receive rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning.
Strong Winds and Lightning Likely
In districts placed under the yellow warning, rainfall may be accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, with wind speeds expected to reach 30 to 40 km per hour.
Additionally, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow warning from March 9 to March 10 for six districts — Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara — where similar weather conditions are likely.
Possibility of Humid Weather
The weather department has also cautioned that humid conditions may prevail in several parts of the state during this period. Residents have been advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms and avoid open areas during lightning activity.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged the public to follow official weather updates and safety advisories.
