Heatwave-Like Conditions Grip Odisha as Jharsuguda Records 39.6°C; Rain Likely in North Odisha from March 8

Daytime temperatures have begun rising sharply across Odisha with the onset of March, intensifying heat conditions in several districts. In the last 24 hours, Jharsuguda recorded the highest temperature in the state at 39.6 degrees Celsius, signalling the early arrival of summer-like weather.

According to the India Meteorological Department’s Regional Meteorological Centre Bhubaneswar, the prevailing heat conditions are expected to continue across the state. However, meteorologists have said that no significant change in the overall temperature pattern is likely over the next five days.

Rising Temperature Across Odisha

Since the beginning of March, several parts of Odisha have been experiencing a steady rise in daytime temperatures, leading to warmer and drier conditions. The industrial town of Jharsuguda registered the highest temperature of 39.6°C, making it the hottest place in the state during the past 24 hours.

Weather officials noted that while the temperature levels are rising, major fluctuations are not expected in the coming days. As a result, the current warm weather conditions are likely to persist across most districts of the state.

The early spike in temperature has also raised concerns about heat stress in western and interior districts, where summer conditions usually intensify faster compared to coastal areas.

Weather Forecast for the Next Five Days

Meteorological authorities said that the overall temperature trend will remain relatively stable during the next five days. Although heat conditions are likely to continue, there is no immediate forecast of extreme temperature spikes across Odisha.

The weather department has advised residents to remain cautious during peak daytime hours as temperatures are expected to stay above normal levels in several districts.

Rain and Thunderstorm Likely in North Odisha

A slight change in weather conditions may occur later in the week. According to the forecast, parts of North Odisha could experience rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms around March 8.

The anticipated rainfall activity could bring temporary relief from the rising heat, especially in northern districts where temperatures have been climbing steadily.

Meteorologists said that such pre-summer thunderstorms are common during this period, often bringing short spells of rain and gusty winds that help reduce temperatures briefly.

Authorities continue to monitor the evolving weather pattern and have advised people to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun as the state gradually moves toward the peak summer season.
