Odisha Weather Update: IMD Forecasts Gradual Drop in Night Temperatures, Bhubaneswar to Dip to 17°C by Mid-Week

Bhubaneswar, November 8: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a gradual fall in minimum temperatures across Odisha over the coming days, marking the onset of winter-like conditions in several parts of the state. Clear skies and the flow of dry north-easterly winds are driving the temperature decline, with the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack expected to experience notably cooler nights by mid-next week.

Temperature Drop Across Odisha

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, night temperatures are likely to fall by 2°C to 3°C during the next 2–3 days, with no major fluctuations expected thereafter.

Dry weather continues to prevail across Odisha, and no significant synoptic system is currently influencing the region’s skies. The IMD said the overall pattern signals a seasonal transition toward early winter conditions.

On Saturday night, Phulbani recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the plains at 12.5°C, while Nayagarh registered the highest maximum temperature of 34°C.

At 8:30 am on Saturday, Bhubaneswar reported a maximum of 32.3°C and a minimum of 18.9°C, showing a steady cooling trend. The IMD also noted that minimum temperatures have fallen by 2–3°C in some interior districts such as Sundargarh and Kalahandi, where shallow fog was observed early in the morning.

Interior Odisha Turns Cooler

The IMD bulletin highlighted that north interior Odisha is witnessing below-normal night temperatures, about 4°C below average in several locations.
Other districts are recording temperatures 1–2°C below normal, while a few southern pockets continue to see slightly above-normal readings due to lingering humidity.

Overall, the state has entered a distinctly cooler phase, especially in interior belts, where the winter chill is setting in earlier than along the coastal plains.

Forecast for Bhubaneswar and Cuttack

For Bhubaneswar, the IMD has predicted fog or mist during early morning hours, followed by clear skies throughout the day. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 32°C, while the minimum temperature may gradually drop to 17°C by midweek.

In Cuttack, a similar weather pattern is expected, with morning fog, bright afternoons, and night temperatures dipping to around 16°C.

The cooler spell is anticipated to provide welcome relief from the humid conditions that prevailed during the retreating monsoon period.

Seasonal Transition Underway

As of Saturday, clear skies, low humidity, and light winds dominate Odisha’s weather, indicating a stable shift from post-monsoon conditions to early winter. Meteorologists say the coming days will bring crisper mornings and pleasant evenings, particularly in northern and interior districts.
