Kendrapara: Flood conditions have worsened in parts of Odisha’s Kendrapara district, with floodwater surrounding 31 panchayats in Aul and Rajkanika blocks following a rise in the water levels of several major rivers.
Of the affected panchayats, 16 are located in Aul block and 15 in Rajkanika block. Floodwater has remained in and around several villages for the past three to four days, causing considerable difficulties for residents and disrupting normal life.
The rise in the Brahmani, Kharasrota, Kani and Baitarani rivers has contributed to the worsening situation, leaving large areas surrounded by water.
Villages Remain Surrounded By Floodwater
Residents in the affected panchayats have been struggling to manage their daily activities as water continues to remain around homes and village areas.
The prolonged presence of floodwater has also raised concerns about access to essential supplies and movement within the affected areas. Families living in low-lying locations are particularly vulnerable as water remains stagnant for several days.
With the flood situation showing little immediate sign of improvement, residents are waiting for the water level to recede and normal conditions to return.
Night-Time Conditions Raise Concern
The situation becomes more challenging after sunset when visibility decreases in the flood-affected areas. Residents have expressed particular concern about the possibility of snakes and frogs entering houses and surrounding areas as floodwater continues to occupy residential and agricultural land.
Families are therefore remaining cautious during the night, especially while moving around their homes and nearby areas.
The prolonged waterlogging has added another layer of difficulty for people who have already been dealing with the impact of the floods for several days.
Residents Await Relief
With floodwater continuing to surround villages across Aul and Rajkanika, residents are hoping for a gradual improvement in the situation and the restoration of normal life.
The rise in multiple rivers has kept the affected areas under pressure, while the continued presence of water is making everyday life increasingly difficult.
As the flood situation persists, the focus remains on the movement of river water, the condition of vulnerable villages and the safety of residents living in the affected panchayats.
