Bhubaneswar: Floodwaters continued to disrupt normal life across several parts of northern and coastal Odisha as swelling rivers inundated agricultural fields, roads and low-lying areas. The situation has caused fresh concerns among residents and farmers, particularly in districts that have already experienced multiple rounds of flooding.
Several areas remain waterlogged as rivers continue to rise following persistent rainfall. Farmers are facing the prospect of further crop losses, while residents in vulnerable areas are struggling with damaged roads and disrupted connectivity.
Basudevpur Hit by Fresh Wave of Flooding
In Bhadrak district’s Basudevpur, floodwaters have continued to remain stagnant as the Kansabansa and Gamei rivers swelled.
Thousands of hectares of farmland have reportedly been submerged, with the fresh flooding occurring before water from the previous spell had completely receded. Paddy fields and vegetable crops have suffered damage, leaving farmers concerned about their livelihoods and the possibility of further losses if the water remains for an extended period.
Residents said the repeated flooding has made recovery increasingly difficult for farming communities.
Several Villages Remain Under Water
Flood conditions continue to affect Sudarshanpur, Barandua, Jagannathprasad and Lunga panchayats under Basudevpur block.
Large stretches of farmland remain submerged, while residents in low-lying areas continue to face difficulties due to stagnant floodwater.
The repeated rise in water levels has added to concerns over access to roads, agricultural land and essential services. Residents are looking towards the administration for relief and measures to prevent further deterioration of the situation.
Baitarani Crosses Danger Mark Again
The flood situation has also intensified around Anandapur in Keonjhar district, where the Baitarani River was flowing above the danger mark for the third time.
The latest rise in the river level has once again affected people living in vulnerable areas. Floodwater has started entering low-lying parts of Wards 5 and 6 under Anandapur Municipality.
The Anandapur Sub-Collector is monitoring the situation as authorities assess the impact of the rising water level and prepare to respond if conditions worsen.
Brahmani River Floods Daudeshwar Temple
The swelling Brahmani River has also affected Daudeshwar Temple in Karmul panchayat of Dhenkanal district.
Floodwater has risen over the temple platform, while the road leading to the shrine has also been submerged. The flooding has disrupted access to the temple and affected the surrounding area.
Several agricultural fields in Karmul remain underwater, adding to the problems faced by farmers and residents.
Farmers Fear Further Crop Losses
The continuing floods have created serious concerns for agricultural communities across the affected districts. Paddy, vegetables and other crops remain vulnerable as farmland stays submerged.
With rivers continuing to carry increased water, authorities are closely monitoring river levels and vulnerable locations. The immediate focus remains on managing the flood situation, maintaining connectivity and providing assistance to affected residents.
