Baripada: Train services were disrupted in Baripada, Mayurbhanj district, on Monday after nearly 50 metres of railway track collapsed near Sungadia, close to the Baripada Station Market area. The incident occurred amid incessant rainfall in the region, affecting rail connectivity and forcing the cancellation of several train services.
The track damage has raised concerns over railway movement in the area as the region continues to experience heavy rainfall. Railway authorities have begun restoration work on the affected stretch to resume services at the earliest.
Heavy Rain Triggers Track Damage
According to preliminary information, continuous rainfall caused the soil beneath the railway track to weaken and give way, resulting in the collapse of a section measuring around 50 metres.
The damage occurred near Sungadia, not far from Baripada railway station, disrupting train operations originating from the area.
Baripada-Bhubaneswar Train Among Services Cancelled
Following the incident, several trains operating from Baripada were cancelled as a precautionary measure.
The affected services include the Bangriposi-Bhubaneswar Superfast and Bhanjpur-Rupsa MEMU trains. The cancellations have affected passengers travelling between Baripada and other parts of Odisha.
Railway authorities are expected to assess the condition of the track before permitting normal train movement through the affected section.
Restoration Work Begins
Railway officials reached the spot after receiving information about the track collapse and immediately began repair and restoration work.
