Puri: Chitalagi Amavasya 2026, also known as Chittau Amavasya, will be observed at the Srimandir in Puri on Wednesday during the holy month of Shravan. The day will feature the special Chitalagi Niti, during which Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra will be adorned with their traditional golden forehead ornaments.
Chitalagi Niti at Srimandir
The special ritual will be performed after the completion of the first Bhoga Mandap Niti. The golden Chita ornaments of the three deities had been removed during Snana Purnima.
As part of the Chitalagi Amavasya rituals, the ornaments will once again be placed on the foreheads of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra.
Puri Srimandir Darshan Timings
In view of the special ritual, general darshan at Puri Srimandir will remain suspended from 2 PM to 7 PM on Wednesday.
Devotees will not be permitted to have public darshan during this period as temple rituals involving the deities are performed.
Temple authorities have advised devotees to take note of the revised Srimandir darshan timings and plan their visit accordingly.
Solar Eclipse Not Visible in India
A solar eclipse is also occurring on Wednesday. However, the eclipse will be visible only in certain parts of foreign countries and will not be visible from India.
Therefore, no eclipse-related religious observances will be followed in India, and the Chitalagi Amavasya rituals at Srimandir will be conducted as scheduled.
